If your Rheem solar hot water system has stopped heating properly, is leaking, or showing error messages, Todd’s Plumbing & Electrical can help.
We repair and service the full Rheem solar range, including Loline, Premier Loline, Hiline and Premier Hiline (52C series) systems, which are widely installed in Australian homes.
With 20+ years on the Gold Coast, we understand how local water quality, roof layouts and climate affect Rheem systems – and what it takes to get them running reliably again.

Rheem Loline® Split Systems
Roof-mounted solar collectors
Ground-level storage tank
Electric or gas-boosted options
Designed for warmer climates and good water quality areas like much of coastal QLD
Split system with heat-exchange circuit
Suitable for cooler climates or poor water quality
Often used where frost protection is needed.
Rheem Hiline® Roof-Mounted Systems
Tank and collectors mounted together on the roof
Uses thermosiphon (no circulation pump)
Simple, reliable design for non-frost regions.
Rheem Premier Hiline® 52C Series
Indirect closed-circuit Hiline design
Specifically built for frost-prone areas and tough water chemistry
1. No Hot Water or Only Lukewarm Water
Cold or barely warm showers
Hot water runs out very quickly
Faulty booster thermostat or element
Failed circulation pump (on split Loline/Premier Loline)
Airlocks in the solar loop
Sensor faults or controller issues
Incorrect tariff or timer settings
Test element, thermostat and electrical supply
Check pump operation, flow rates and solar loop temperature difference
Bleed air from pipework and restore circulation
Replace failed sensors or repair controller wiring
Reconfigure timers/boosting so you have hot water in the mornings and evenings

2. Rheem Solar System Leaking (Roof or Ground Level)
Water on the roof around panels
Rust stains down the wall
Puddles under the tank
Likely causes:
Corroded storage tank
Cracked or split collectors
Perished roof fittings or unions
Poor or ageing installation joints
Pressure-test the system to find the exact leak point
Repair or replace fittings, unions and valves where viable
Replace damaged collectors or sections of copper pipe
If the tank is structurally failing, we’ll give options for replacement (solar, heat-pump or high-efficiency electric/gas)

3. PTR Valve Constantly Dripping
Continuous or heavy water flow from PTR drain line
Hissing or steaming near the valve
Likely causes:
Excess pressure inside the tank
Faulty or worn PTR valve
Mains pressure too high
Overheating due to boosting or solar gain
Test system pressure and temperature
Replace the PTR valve with a compliant new valve
Install or check pressure limiting valves where needed
Adjust controls to stop the system overheating

4. Pump Not Running / Running Constantly (Loline & Premier Loline)
Likely causes:
Cold water despite sunny days
Circulation pump silent when it should be on
Or pump humming/running continuously
Likely causes:
Burnt-out pump motor
Failed relay or PCB in controller
Faulty temperature sensor (incorrect readings)
Airlock causing the pump to stall
Check pump power and amperage draw
Test controller output and sensor readings
Replace faulty pumps, relays or sensors
Bleed lines and restore correct flow

5. Booster Not Working (Electric or Gas)
Hot water okay on sunny days, cold after cloudy weather
Water only gets lukewarm at night
Failed element or thermostat
Tripped breaker or faulty isolator
Tariff/timer misconfiguration
On gas-boost: ignition or gas supply issues
Test and replace elements, thermostats or fuses
Check wiring, isolators and circuits
Reconfigure boosting times to match your household’s usage
For gas boosters, we repair or coordinate with licensed gasfitters as required

6. Error Codes, Flashing Lights or Controller Faults
Read and interpret the error codes
Test thermistors, sensors and PCB connections
Replace failed components with genuine parts
Reset system and verify correct operation under load

7. System Noisy, “Boiling” or Overheating
Gurgling or “kettling” noises from roof panels
Steam at vent points on very hot days
Air in solar lines
Stagnation/overheating in collectors
Faulty valves or circulation issues
Bleed trapped air
Verify circulation and adjust settings
Replace non-return or tempering valves as needed
Check that collectors and tank are correctly matched for your site

Q: Why is my Rheem solar hot water not heating up?
A: The most common reasons are a failed booster element or thermostat, a faulty circulation pump (on split systems), airlocks in the solar loop, or sensor/controller faults. A licensed plumber can test these components, bleed the system and restore proper boosting.
Q: How long should a Rheem solar hot water system last?
A: With correct installation and regular maintenance, many Rheem solar systems last around 10–15 years or more, although harsh water and coastal conditions can shorten tank life. Leaks, rust or recurring faults are signs it may be time to repair or upgrade.
Q: Can a Rheem solar leak be repaired or do I need a new system?
A: Small leaks from fittings, valves or joints are often repairable. If the storage tank or collectors themselves are split or badly corroded, a replacement is usually more cost-effective. We’ll always explain your options and costs before you decide.
Q: Do you service both older and newer Rheem solar models?
A: Yes. We work on older Hiline roof systems, newer Loline split systems, and frost-protected Premier ranges. If you can’t find the model number, we can generally identify it on site.
Q: How often should a Rheem solar hot water system be serviced?
A: As a rule of thumb, we recommend a check every 3–5 years, including valve checks, anode inspection (if applicable), and general system health checks. This helps prevent costly breakdowns and extends the life of the system.
